Footprint shape "silk" property or rule.

All shapes in a footprint should have a default property or rule called "silk" which can be enabled or disabled. When enabled the shape will show up on the PCB layout and in the silk Gerbers.
This would allow the ref to show up in the schematic view, but be hidden in the PCB view and Gerber.
There should be another property called Keepout, which has the shape show up only in the PCB view and not in the Gerber.

the other problem with using the enable rule, is there is no way to apply it to some of the line in a foot print and not others, or some of the text and not others.
Lance did show me how to suppress all of the text with a rule, but not use the '
VALUE
' while having the 'REF
' still show. I played with it for an hour trying to get it to select some but not all of the test items.Altivecer
The issue is, we need to see the keep out area when designing the PWB, but do not want it as part of the silkscreen. Same goes for the Value is there is one. The parts in the MOD file has different kind of shapes, but they are all being brought in as shapes for the silkscreen.

The "enabled" rule does exactly that
it allows you to enable/disable pcb nodes including shapes. if disabled then the node and its descendants are excluded from canvas, gerber export, pick and place, etc
