No airwires & other issues in example project

This example project has multiple issues.

When I delete traces, no airwires show up.
A depreciated rule is being used.
There's tons of overlapping copper somehow.
Weird text artifacts in metamodules.
The object tree loads slowly.

Pretty low perf in this project across the board. I know I've heard many times that the simulator is not a source of performance issues, but the simulator running is the only thing that sets this project apart from others that I can see.
